About Lejhøjtaler.dk: how Copenhagen's easiest audio rental started
Written by Frederik Scharling, who has worked with sound, events and music production for more than 15 years and runs Lejhøjtaler.dk in Copenhagen. Updated 8 September 2026.
Behind Lejhøjtaler.dk is Frederik Scharling, who has worked with sound, events and music production for more than 15 years. But even with all that experience, he ran into the same problem as every other Copenhagener: it is surprisingly hard to get hold of decent audio equipment for a private party — without it costing a fortune or taking half a day.
The birthday party that started it
It became clear on a Saturday in May, when he was hosting a birthday party for his partner in their flat. Nothing grand — 20 friends, good food and proper music. He asked around for a Soundboks. One friend had already lent theirs on. Another lived in Valby and could not return it in time. When he finally got hold of one, the battery died after 20 minutes.
Most Copenhageners will recognise the situation. You just want good music at your party, but the road there is full of friction: friends who cannot lend, rental firms with high prices and long contracts, or battery speakers that do not last an evening.
The day after, the decision was made
Audio rental in Copenhagen should be done properly. Affordable, simple, and fitted to the life people actually live in a city.
Frederik knew the industry from the inside. He knew what professional audio equipment cost, and he knew the margin between purchase price and rental price at the big players was enormous. There was room for a service that gave people professional sound at a fair price — with no long contracts, and without needing a car to collect it.
Designed for Copenhagen
Copenhagen is a cycling city. Most of our customers do not own a car, and they should not have to. So Lejhøjtaler.dk was built around a simple principle: the equipment has to be transportable by bike.
Our small speaker package weighs just 12 kg and comes in a padded carry bag. Two compact speakers with every cable included — ready to strap to a rear rack and ride home. For anyone renting the large package, or who would simply rather skip the transport, we deliver anywhere in Copenhagen for 495 DKK, or 795 DKK if we collect it again afterwards.
Collection happens at Vermlandsgade 66 in Copenhagen, where there is always one hour of free parking. Most people collect on Friday afternoon and return on Monday — a whole weekend of sound for one fixed price.
What we believe
We have deliberately cut away everything unnecessary. No long contracts. No hidden fees. You book online in three minutes, turn up in Copenhagen S, pay when you collect — and you are set.
We believe party sound in Copenhagen does not have to cost a fortune. Our prices start at 595 DKK for a complete speaker package with cables included. Compare that to what others charge and the difference is quick to see.
More than speakers
At Lejhøjtaler.dk you can rent everything a complete party needs. Alongside the speaker packages we offer a light bar with LED effects, a fog machine, and microphones for the speeches at confirmations and company parties.
Our small package suits a flat, a courtyard or an intimate gathering. Our large package with stereo tops and a subwoofer handles parties of 100+ guests without trouble.
Try it yourself
Booking takes three minutes. Choose your equipment, choose your date, and we handle the rest. We look forward to hearing from you.
