Which speaker should you rent for your party?

Written by Frederik Scharling, who has worked with sound, events and music production for more than 15 years and runs Lejhøjtaler.dk in Copenhagen. Updated 8 September 2026.

Choosing the right speaker comes down to three things: how many guests, indoors or outdoors, and what kind of music. Here is a concrete guide, so you neither end up with too little sound nor pay for too much.

The small speaker package: up to 40 people

The small package is two powered 10" Alto speakers that deliver clear sound for parties in flats, basements, courtyards and smaller gardens. It comfortably covers a room of up to 80 m² and suits a birthday, a Friday bar or a summer party with a guest list under 40.

What is included?

  • 2× powered 10" speakers
  • AUX cable and a Bluetooth connection
  • Every cable you need

The price is 595 DKK for a weekend — collect Friday, return Monday. If you want a single battery-powered speaker instead, the Mackie Thump GO is 395 DKK.

The large speaker package: 50-100 people

For a bigger party — a garden party, a company event, a confirmation with 80+ guests — you need more power. The large package gives you two 12" EV tops in stereo, so the sound reaches the back of the room without being pushed into distortion.

What is included?

  • 2× powered 12" EV tops
  • AUX cable and a Bluetooth connection
  • Every cable you need

The price is 995 DKK for a weekend. Speaker stands are 100 DKK, and a 12" subwoofer is 295 DKK if you want the bass to be felt rather than just heard.

How do you choose?

A simple rule of thumb:

  • Under 30 guests indoors: the small package is plenty.
  • 30-50 guests, or outdoors: the small package can manage, but the large one gives you headroom.
  • 50+ guests: take the large package. Outdoor sound disperses quickly and you need the extra power.
  • Speeches and a microphone? A wireless microphone is 295 DKK and plugs straight into the speaker — no mixer needed. That is the obvious add-on for confirmations and company parties.
  • More than 100 guests? Look at the ready-made PA packages by guest count, which include a subwoofer and stands.

Practical tips

  1. Placement: put the speaker at head height, on a stand or a table. Sound fired into the floor is sound lost.
  2. Distance from the wall: keep at least 30 cm clear to avoid muddy bass.
  3. Test before the guests arrive: connect your phone, play a track, and walk the room to hear whether the sound reaches every corner.
  4. Add light: combine it with our light package for the full effect.
